Havenstreet A climbed to fourth place after a win over Ryde Goshawks.
The match, held during the week ending November 22, saw Havenstreet secure a 7-3 victory, with notable performances from the team despite facing stiff competition from Ryde’s Steve Mills.
Mills managed to win all his games in three sets, but Havenstreet clinched victory by winning all other games, finishing with a comfortable doubles win.
Ryde Rankers also moved two points closer to the top of the table.
Their 10-0 victory over Newport Vics B was significant, especially as league leaders Ryde C dropped two matches against Ryde B.
Alex Rorke of Ryde B showed impressive form, securing two wins against Ryde C’s Paul Rainford and Joe Chapman, and narrowly losing to highly ranked junior Ryan Cates in a five-set match.
In Division Two, Ryde Revellers were surprisingly held to a draw by the lower-ranked Ryde Quintet.
The Quintet’s Julie Thorn was the standout player, winning all three of her matches without dropping a leg.
Her teammates, William Paul and Alan Dennis, won one match each, and the Revellers took the doubles, ending the match at 5-5.
Ryde Detonators, now only one point behind the Revellers, secured a 7-3 win against Newport Vics C.
Despite Newport’s defeat, Paul Lewis remained unbeaten and was named player of the match.
Ryde Rascals, who usually finish near the top, were pleased with their 7-3 win over Newport Vics D, with Peter Clarke unbeaten and player of the match.
In Division Three, the standard of play has risen with new players joining Ryde Frogs and the introduction of a new team, Wroxall Warriors.
This week, Wroxall Warriors beat St Lawrence Lizards 6-4 in a thrilling match with some extremely close games, knocking St Lawrence off the top spot.
Ryde Retailers climbed up the table after an impressive 9-1 win over Ryde Rustics.
They are now leading the table, with Wroxall in second place.
Other results included Ryde Rockets’ 6-4 win over Shorwell Spinners and Ryde Rising Stars’ 7-3 victory over Havenstreet B.
