LEADING Island table tennis players faced off in a series of closely contested matches last week.

Ryde A narrowly defeated Ryde Goshawks 6-4, with Scott Lawson and Steve Mills going head-to-head.

Lawson secured victory in the final set with a score of 12-10.

In a clash between the top two teams in Division 1, Ryde C beat Ryde Rankers 6-4.

Hugh Idle of the Rankers won all his matches, including against top-rated junior, Ryan Cates.

Idle's junior team-mate, Lewis Johnstone, had a close game against Joe Chapman — eventually winning in five sets.

Newport Vics B secured their first win of the season against Newport Vics A, with the match ending 8-2 in their favour.

In Division 2, Ryde Revellers and Ryde Detonators lead the table, followed closely by Havenstreet B.

All three teams won their matches 8-2 this week.

Newly promoted Shorwell Spinners defeated Newport Vics D 7-3.

Meanwhile, in Division 3, St Lawrence Lizards lead the table, with Ryde Revellers in second place and Wroxall Warriors, third.

Wroxall Warriors drew with Ryde Revellers in an exciting match.

Andrew Bailey of Wroxall was named player of the match— remaining unbeaten this season, along with St Lawrence's Derek Pittard.
