THE Wight Eagles secured a point against third-place Liphook United, despite injuries and absences.

WIGHT EAGLES 2, LIPHOOK 2

The Eagles, who had to reshuffle their line-up, gave some 16-year-olds a chance to shine.

They started the match with high spirits and managed to keep possession well.

Despite a mistake at the back allowing Liphook to take a 1-0 lead, the Eagles equalised before half-time with Emma Webb's first goal for the team.

The second half saw the Eagles dominate, pushing Liphook United back into their own half.

Kira Smith had several chances to stretch the defence, and eventually won a penalty, which she converted to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

However, a late goal from Liphook United meant the match ended 2-2, with both teams taking a point.

Manager Dan Verstraeten said: "We played a blinder today. The mainland side were well organised and well drilled and we really had to fight on our hands.

"Credit to all the players, they gave everything right to the end and we’ll go again next week when we travel to Totton."

Maisie Rann was named the Reno Drain sponsored player of the match.

The Eagles will face AFC Totton away in Southampton on Sunday, November 17.
