WITH their perfect league record intact as we head into November, Sandown and Shanklin seconds can now be considered serious contenders for promotion after a dominant win over Tottonians thirds.

SANDOWN & SHANKLIN II 44, TOTTONIANS III 12

A large crowd at the Fairway Ground watched an exciting afternoon of rugby.

The match was crucial for both teams, with Tottonians eager to maintain their lead in the championship, while Sandown aiming to prove their title ambitions.

The home side took an early lead, with a penalty and a try from pack leader, George Shannon, who was named man of the match.

Sandown led 18-5 at half-time after a strong performance.

The second half began with Tottonians reducing the lead to 18-12, capitalising on a penalty try.

However, Sandown quickly regained control — responding with a flurry of tries, including contributions from Dan Robinson and a second try from Shannon.

The team's captain, Gary Warvill, said: "The team showed great leadership and strength. Nothing seems to phase these boys.

"We aim to stay at the top now, and we'll keep building one game at a time."
