Isle of Wight RFC fell to their heaviest home defeat in years, when they faced Counties 2 Hampshire league leaders Winchester II.

ISLE OF WIGHT 13, WINCHESTER II 74

The match saw the visitors dominate throughout the game.

IWRFC fell behind early, finding themselves under pressure within three minutes on the clock.

Despite this, the Islanders managed to compete well, with the excellent Ian Puzey making key turnovers.

George Huish kicked a penalty from 35m — a stunning effort from the halfway line to make the score 7-6.

Brad Martin then scored, putting IW ahead 13-12.

However, Winchester responded with a flurry of tries and led 29-13 at half-time.

IW felt aggrieved by some referee decisions, including a knocked-down pass and a forward pass, during a try.

The home defence struggled against Winchester's relentless attack, despite strong tackles from Huish and turnovers by the impressive Finlay Lockhart.

The Islanders face Havant III next weekend.
