Cowes Sports have announced that Ian Potts and Mark Woodhouse will take on the mantle as joint first team managers, following the departure of Max Draper last month.

The Yachtsmen opened manager applications on October 2, and, after a couple of strong league performances, the job has been handed to interim boss Potts and former assistant manager Woodhouse.

Potts has been a mainstay at Cowes Sports but also previously served as Richie Woodburn’s assistant at East Cowes Vics – before the arrival of current boss Alex Smith.

Meanwhile, Woodhouse has experience on both Shanklin and Cowes’ benches as the assistant in the dugout.

A club announcement reads: "After reviewing the applications for the vacant first team manager position, and having reviewed the last few weeks in regards to club environment and performances, a decision has been made that both Ian Potts and Mark Woodhouse have been selected to become joint first team managers of Cowes Sports FC.

"We want to thank all of those who have applied, and for everyone who has been patient during this transition within the club."

Former boss Max Draper left the club on September 12 following a string of poor results in the Wessex League, bringing to an end his five-year stint.

Cowes found themselves winless, managing just two points in seven games and sitting bottom of the Premier Division.

The Yachtsman also crashed out early in this season’s FA Cup, FA Vase and Wessex League Cups.

Since Draper left the club, and Potts taking over as interim, Cowes have managed to claw back six points from a possible nine in the league, lifting the Islanders out of the relegation zone and into 17th.

Potts and Woodhouse will take the helm in the Yachtsman’s next fixture at fellow strugglers Christchurch on Saturday (October 12).
