Cowes Sports put in a spirited display but it wasn't enough to see off Brockenhurst at the Zilch Waste Stadium.

The Yachtsmen came into tonight's game off the back of 5-0 and 3-0 wins, respectively and were hoping to pick up where they left off.

Unfortunately for the hosts, it took just 11 minutes for The Badgers to take the lead.

A corner on the left was hooked away but the clearance could only find an opposing player, whose cross was tapped in by striker, Tiago Moreno.

Just 12 minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead. Again, a cross was not dealt with and Joel Francis was able to tuck the ball home.

Things went from bad to worse for Cowes in the 32nd minute.

A clearance from a cross found Elliott Pearce-Eavis, whose first time shot flew past Cowes stopper Bridi into the top corner.

On the stroke of half-time, there was a glimmer of hope for the Island side, though.

A cross from Dempsey found Scott McFarlane, who headed in at the back post to make it 3-1.

That goal gave the home side hope coming into the second-half.

Just four minutes after the restart, captain John McKie volleyed home after good work from McFarlane, who chipped it over the onrushing goalkeeper.

But any hope of an equaliser filtered out in the 68th minute.

Out of nowhere, keeper Bridi miskicked the ball straight to Brockenhurst's Luke Gray, who hit a spectacular effort into the net from 45 yards out.

Cowes responded almost immediately, Liam Triggs meeting a Mumford cross to hammer the ball off the post and into the net.

But late goals from Tyler Wellman and Lyle Simpson put paid to any further comeback for the Island side.

It finished Brockenhurst 6-3 Cowes Sports.
