Two Isle of Wight athletes competed in the annual British Masters Outdoor Athletics Championships last weekend.

Running across July 27 and 28, the event attracted hundreds of athletes.

First up on the Saturday was Emily Fry, who competed in the W40 Long Jump after a month of limited training due to an Achilles injury.

It was a closely fought competition, with medal positions changing leading up to last jump.

Emily narrowly missed out on gold, losing out by just 3cm, but achieving silver with a distance of 4.90m.

On Sunday, Garry Newton stepped up for the M45 shot putt, looking to improve on his silver medal at the 2023 Championships, and to add to his gold medal at the British Indoor Championships earlier in the year.

After a slow start, the competition ramped up in the second round.

A throw of 12.24m took the lead by a margin of over a meter, putting Garry in a strong position for the remaining four throws.

Small gains were made by several other competitors, but a throw of 12.25m in the fifth round cemented the win and gold medal for Garry.
