THERE was success on the water for Newport Rowing Club at Southampton's Woolston Regatta on Sunday.
The regatta had been rearranged from two weeks earlier when strong winds had led to its postponement.
This week, crews found Southampton Water surprisingly calm.
Newport, which has had several close races this season, where they were just pipped for first place, were fired up to make the men's novice crew event theirs.
The Islanders led from start to finish, turning first at the buoy and consolidating their lead in the second half of the race.
The crew of Carl Nordbruch, Chris Clarke, Ed Hopper, and Jake Garner was once again well coxed by Mariana Hare.
