Almost 100 golfers competed for Isle of Wight silverware in Sandown at the weekend.

Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club held a Men’s Club Championship and competition was fierce, with 92 golfers competing.

The winner and men’s club champion was Joseph Green with a gross 141, narrowly beating James Cheek who registered 142.

The Peter Hammond Cup, comprising 18 holes, was won by Shaun Mallon (nett 65), who came in ahead of Kevin Liquorish on nett 67.

Meanwhile, the Melville Hall Cup, also comprising 18 holes, went to Sam Callaghan on nett 67, on countback from Antony Bond.

The latter, Bond, went on to win the 36-hole Roger Matthews Salver, on nett 134, ahead of Keith Taylor on nett 138.

George Foreman, on gross 143, took home the Hill Quaish, comprising 36 holes for over 55s, beating out competition from Ian Miller (gross 151).
