Newport Rowing Club displayed commendable effort at the Hants and Dorset 2024 contest.

Sculler, Julie Clarke, achieved third in her round, competing impressively against rivals significantly younger.

Conner Garner also demonstrated prowess, launching a strong start in his round, but ultimately finished in second place after losing time on the turn.

A Men’s Junior crew, featuring Nathaniel Hamilton, Connor Garner, Harry Hare, and Boris Hare, performed outstandingly amongst a group of 16 teams to reach the semi-finals, where they succumbed to Ryde RC.

In a tense competition, the Women's Masters crew comprising Julie Clarke, Julia Coulson, Lexie Nestor-Powell, and Fran Ladd initially held their own in the round but were narrowly beaten by Poole.

However, Men's Novice crew with Jake Garner, Chris Clarke, Ed Hopper, and Hayden Tiffin advanced comfortably to the final.

A challenging competition ensued, with little differentiating Newport and Southampton's BTC crew.

Newport contended with the unwelcome addition of wash from motor boats, causing them to take on water, yet they managed to press BTC and finish second.

Mariana Hare expertly guided all three crews as coxswain, ensuring a commendable day's performance for the club.
