It was a mixed bag of results for the Isle of Wight's Wessex league football sides today (Saturday).

In the Premier Division, seventh placed Cowes Sports faced off against high-flyers, Moneyfields.

The Yachtsmen found themselves trailing within 37 minutes - the opposing striker tucking home after the ball had hit the post.

It stayed 1-0 up until the 61st minute when Moneyfields doubled their lead direct from a freekick.

A change in system saw Cowes having more of the ball in the final third.

But, with 78 minutes on the clock, the away side tripled their advantage thanks to a header at the back post.

 Just five minutes later, The Yachtsmen conceded a penalty which was tucked away expertly.

In Division One, Newport travelled to Whitchurch United looking to bounce back from defeat in their last league game.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute but Port were able to equalise just after the half an hour mark, thanks to Josh Younie.

Port found themselves behind again in the second-half. Keeper Leon Pitman was lobbed after being spotted off his line.

But with 76 minutes gone, Jordan Brown, on his 200th appearance, grabbed the equaliser.

Final score: Whitchurch 2-2 Newport

Elsewhere in Division One, East Cowes Vics welcomed Aldermaston to Beatrice Avenue with new signing Jake Wright making his first appearance.

With five minutes on the clock, Vics went ahead. The debutant's exquisite through ball found Ji Nash, who finished well.

A flurry of chances came the way of the hosts but they could not be converted.

That was until Wright found Snow who picked out Nash for his second.

Vics' third came in the 44th minute, a great move between Chapman and Wright found Nash whose shot was saved but Charlie Marsek was on hand to make it 3-0.

In the second-half, Toby Snow's long searching ball fell to Nash who steadied himself to score his hattrick.

Further efforts from Nash and Wright were well saved again by Knight who was keeping the score down with his sheer determination.

Final score: East Cowes Vics 4-0 Aldermaston
