AN AMBITIOUS Isle of Wight bodybuilder came home with a medal at the weekend – after competing in a fiercely competitive bench press competition.
On Saturday, March 2, the Island’s very own Ferenc ‘Frank’ Schlepp secured bronze at the British Classic Bench Press Championships, held in Rayleigh, Essex.
Despite facing significant challenges, including a torn chest muscle and injured palm, the 45-year-old demonstrated unwavering determination and resilience throughout.
His journey to success began amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Making the most of his time, Frank reignited his passion for powerlifting; a sport he excelled in as a Hungarian powerlifting champion in 1996.
Returning to the competitive scene, he stuck to a rigorous training regimen.
His dedication bore fruit when he tasted success in a qualifying competition earlier this year, earning a coveted spot in the prestigious British Classic Bench Press Championships.
Despite the daunting obstacles he faced, Frank delivered a stellar performance, clinching the bronze medal in his category.
“His achievement serves as an inspiration to individuals of all ages,” said Frank’s wife, Katie.
“It shows it is never too late to pursue one's passions and achieve greatness.”
Reflecting on his success, Frank said: "It's never too late to start moving.
“Many said you're too old, or you can't do it anymore.
“I did it and I'm moving towards my goal because I didn't listen to the naysayers."
