Isle of Wight football team Cowes Sports fell at the hands of Bournemouth Poppies tonight (Tuesday).
The Islanders pressured the hosts early on, forcing them to go long, but failed to profit from two early corner kicks.
Bournemouth almost hit Cowes on the counter on 20 minutes, but the offside flag spared the Islanders’ blushes.
Despite having most of the ball, Cowes struggled to create openings.
They did find the net on 33 minutes, but the offside flag denied them the lead.
The visitors punished them ten minutes thereafter – a first time cross, flicked into the box and converted.
Cowes rallied after the break, pressuring the visitors early on and going direct, but the more aggressive approach did leave them vulnerable on the counter.
The game became end to end, and while the visitors had chances, it was the hosts who eventually netted a second.
Cowes found themselves reduced to ten men, then nine, then eight, as Josh Neale was dismissed, John McKie was sinbinned, and stopper Ed Hatt was shown a red card.
The hosts took advantage of the numerical advantage and scored a second on 77 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.
The game ended 2-0.
