IW Rugby Club’s unbeaten home run hit the buffers as a slick Andover side put the hosts to the sword.
But it was by no means a one-way battle, the Islanders had plenty of possession, and their scrum was dominant.
An inability to convert pressure into points was their downfall.
IW opened the scoring on 13 minutes – a George Huish penalty – which was swiftly cancelled out.
The visitors scored the first try of the afternoon on 22 minutes.
Another Huish penalty cut the deficit to two points, but Andover scored again on the stroke of half-time to lead 13-6.
Biffa Man of the Match Dave Hanson was a livewire throughout the game, looking to up the pace of play at every opportunity, but couldn’t inspire his side to a win.
An exchange of penalties early in the second half kept the game in the balance, but it was Andover who eventually cut loose with some impressive attacking rugby.
They scored four tries in a blistering 15-minute spell to put the result beyond doubt.
Huish scored a consolation try under the posts and converted for a personal 16-point haul, but fittingly, Andover had the last say with the final score of the game.
The game ended IW 16, Andover II 47
