THE Wightlink Warriors Track Racing Club are planning an off-season festive treat for track racing enthusiasts, with plans now coming together for a multi-disciplined race meeting at Ryde's Smallbrook Stadium.

The event, a pre-Christmas ‘Winter Warmer’ training meeting, will feature youth and development speedway, grasstrack GT140 racing and flat track, on Saturday, December 16.

Wightlink Warriors co-owner, Barry Bishop, explained: “I know many of our supporters were disappointed our 2023 summer season was somewhat shorter than originally planned, so it was suggested it would be a nice way to end the calendar year if we could offer something on-track, that was both interesting and novel.

"That idea triggered a few phone calls to our friends in the track racing community and, with plenty of positive feedback, we intend to run a pre-Christmas ‘Winter Warmer’ training meeting.

"It will be the perfect preparation for the 2024 season.

"Spectators will be more than welcome to attend. Provisionally, we plan to start around 11am and run through a mixed programme until approximately 4pm.

"We will, of course, firm these times up just as soon as possible."

"I really hope as many of our regulars as possible will be able to get along for some festive fun and, of course, mainland visitors will be given the usual warm Warriors welcome," Barry added.

"This may be a training race meeting, but it’s sure to bring out the best in riders seeking to gain a little bit extra for 2024."

Under 16s get in free. The Premier Lounge and The Retreat Snack Bar will, of course, be open along, with all the usual race day features.
