THE heavy recent rain gave way to sunshine as nine Ryde Harriers athletes took on the popular Hayling 10 road race — putting in good performances.
The Hayling 10 is a fast, flat, ten-mile race that winds its way around the roads at the southern tip of Hayling Island.
There was an early start for Sunday's Hayling 10 — part of the Hampshire Road Race League — which looped through puddles and pebbles, with scenic stretches around Langstone Harbour and along Hayling seafront.
The whole Harriers team turned in strong performances, despite the blustery headwinds.
First Harrier in was Wayne Matthews, seventh in his age category, with an impressive gun time of 1hr 3mins 56secs, while the first female home was Jodie Wilmott, who completed the course in a speedy 1.19.59.
James Darling and Jackie May both recorded new ten-mile personal bests.
The next Hampshire Road Race League event on the Harriers' calendar will be the Gosport Half Marathon on Sunday, November 19.
