It's been a mixed week of results for two Wight Eagles youth sides, with both teams showing great effort, but only one coming away with three points
Wight Eagles U12 5 – 1 Whiteley Wanderers
The young Eagles carried on their fantastic start to the season by securing another great win.
With lots of early shots, the girls were strong from the off, creating chances for the strikers.
They were very comfortable in the middle of the pitch, with Sophia Aubrey putting in a solid performance, breaking up the play and creating chances for striker Evlynn Harvey.
The goals opened up after ten minutes, with the quick winger Paignton Kennedy making it one before scoring the Eagle’s second just six minutes later.
An error by Whiteley was pounced on by the Islanders, and Harvey slotted home to put them up by three.
Whitley then found some space in behind the Eagle’s defence, looping the ball over the keeper to pull one back.
The Eagles then made it four after another fantastic solo run through the Whitley defence by Kennedy, who secured her hattrick.
The game was sealed moments later, as goal machine Harvey made it five.
Portchester U14 1 – 0 Wight Eagles U14
It was an unlucky result for the hard-working Eagles U14 as they travelled away to Portchester.
The Eagles had their chances to seal the game but struggled with the high tempo and strength of the Portchester side.
Manager Scott Ronan said: “It was a tough game for us, and the result didn’t come off, but we will go back into the league games now fully focused.
“The girls worked hard and were very unlucky.”
Next up, Wight Eagle’s U16s side will take on Vectis U16s in the first girls' Island derby today (Saturday, October 21). The game gets underway in Brighstone at 12.30pm.
