The Isle of Wight Marathon pounds the roads of the West Wight today (Sunday, October 8).
The route follows roads - and hills - Cowes, Gurnard, Rew Street, Porchfield, Shalfleet, Yarmouth, Thorley, Chessell and Ningwood.
While all those who finish win a medal, there are extra prizes for those finishing first to fifth.

History of the Isle of Wight Marathon
- In its 67th year, it sets off at 11am and has been run continuously since 1957.
- The first ever Isle of Wight marathon was won by Ken Honney, who took 2:35:51.
- Dale Grieg became the first woman to run the course in under 3:30:00, in 1964, with a finishing time of 3:27:25.
- It was not until 1976 that the race was officially opened to women.
Gary Marshall finished first in 2022's 66th Isle of Wight Marathon, while the first woman to finish was Claire Angell.
The current course records are held by Ross Skelton, who set the men's fastest time at 2:28:30 and Charlie Metcalfe, who completed the course in 2:56:38, setting the bar for female participants.
