The Isle of Wight's top footballs clubs suffered a mixed bag of results in their matches this afternoon.

Cowes Sports were away to Alton at Anstey Park, in the FA Vase cup match, second round qualifying game.

At half-time they were losing 1-0 and some substitutions were made, with Scott McFarlane, Scott Barron and John McKie heading off the pitch, replaced with Jez Conway, Jordan Cook and George Carter-Knight.

It proved a good decision when Carter-Knight scored, to equalize.

A penalty was then awarded to Cowes, which was scored by Conway, resulting in a 1-2 away win for Cowes.

The team are now through to the next round of the FA Vase.

In Division One of the Wessex League, Newport FC played at home against Fawley AFC at Beatrice Avenue and didn't fare so well.

The score at half time was 1-1 with Joe Craig scoring for Newport. He re-signed for Newport this week.

Three substitutions were made by the home side, swapping Henry West, Nicky Vyse and Keelan Walsh for Aaron Burford, Lewis Wright and Sonny Myram, but it wasn't enough.

The final score at the whistle was 1-2 after a late equaliser from Joe Craig was disallowed.

East Cowes Vics were away to Andover Town, at the Portway Stadium, and came away with an 8-1 victory.

It was the chance to get back to the winning ways they were hoping for, following last weekend's loss.

The match started with promise, when Ji Nash took the first goal in the second minute, and they were 4-0 up just 30 minutes in.

A "dominant display" was hailed by the team as they went into the second half 5-0 up.

Nash scored four goals before he was substituted.

The club said at the end of play: "And that’s a wrap (8-1). Credit to the lads on a dominant performance. Good luck for the rest of the season Andover Town FC."

There are no midweek matches.
