The 28th Isle of Wight Fell Running Series returns this weekend (September 9 and 10), consisting of three races, with runners covering 24 miles of off-road running with over 4,300ft of ascent.
Race one, the St Boniface Fell, will be held on Saturday at 11am, seeing runners dash from the seafront at Ventnor to the top of St Boniface and back down, covering three miles.
The Ventnor Horseshoe, an eight-mile race, gets underway at 3pm, with the course taking runners from the seafront to St Boniface, winding around Wroxall and along the railway line, across to Luccombe Down and back along St Boniface for the final stretch.
On Sunday at 10am, runners, likely stiff from the day before, will line up for the Wroxall Round, the longest race of the weekend, covering 13 miles.
Strong opposition is expected to compete at the event, including Mynydd Du, Compton Harriers, Serpentine Running Club and Victoria Park Harriers coming to give the Island clubs a hard time.
This year, the race venue is St Catherine’s School on Grove Road, with the start on the Esplanade and the finish at the school grounds.
