The Isle of Wight's three Wessex football league sides were in action this evening (Tuesday).

In the Premier Division, Cowes, who came into their game off the back of a 6-1 demolition of Blackfield and Langley, travelled to Lymington.

The Yachtsmen raced ahead after a Jimmy Mumford cross was turned in by Connor Kelly six yards out.

From then onwards it was plain sailing for Cowes, who doubled their lead in the 28th minute courtesy of a Finn Phillips effort.

Ollie West made it three, meeting a Connor Kelly freekick to head in at the backpost.

Captain John McKie added a fourth in the second-half, while Liam Triggs and Caleb Neale scored a fifth and sixth, respectively.

An own goal made it seven, before Scott McFarlane rounded things off.

A crushing victory for the Yachtsmen who continue their fine form.

Final score: Lymington 0-8 Cowes Sports.

In Division One, Newport, who were hoping to build on a 4-1 win over Whitchurch United in their last league fixture, faced Clanfield.

The Port took the lead after Joe Butcher scored with the last kick of the first half.

They were pegged back in the second half, though, after a free-kick drew the game level.

A controversial red card for Spike Pearce saw The Port reduced to ten men late on.

It finished Clanfield 1-1 Newport.

The other game in Division One saw East Cowes Vics host Romsey Town.

In their last league fixture, the Islanders fell to Downtown – losing 2-1 – and suffered an early knockout in the Isuzu FA Vase.

With just over ten minutes to go in this one, the Island side found themselves trailing to a Joe Sutherden strike.

That was until the 89th minute when Adam Voller popped up with an equaliser.

Final score: East Cowes Vics 1-1 Romsey Town.
