In Isle of Wight cricket, at Rowledge on Saturday, Ventnor lost by 85 runs in their final match of the Southern Premier League season.
Ventnor needed three points to ensure survival, so the eight points gleaned from their visit to the Hampshire-Surrey border side was more than enough to retain their Division One status.
The home team recovered from 96-5 (Charlie Calloway 4-54) to rattle up a formidable 317-7 from their 50 overs with William Ryman hitting a 45 ball 75.
Ventnor’s reply began in fine fashion with a 106 run opening partnership between Henry Bartlett (63) and Dineth Thimodya (50). With their dismissals however, only Tom Friend (31) and Martin Blackman (27not out) passed 20 as the innings ended on 232.
