The club and Island was well represented by a squad of 22 athletes, with each one coming away from it with their heads held high — some of them earning the crown of county champion and boasting personal or season's bests.

IWAC now have five new county champions.

Remy Deegan completed the treble in the U13 boys' 100m, 200m and 800m — a rare and outstanding achievement.

His 200m performance broke the championship record — one that had stood since 2005 — with a phenomenal time of 24.68, which also put him top of the UK ranking list for his age.

Hurdlers, Eden Canning and Jacob Patey, also both became county champions in the 100m and 110m hurdles respectively, with Dan Eckersley retaining his 3,000m steeplechase title.

Jacob also won silver in the senior men’s 400m hurdles.

The club's only field event county champion was Emily Fry, who took senior women’s long jump gold.

The other silver medallists were Maisey Kent (400m and 800m), Archie Pearson (U17 1,500m), Jacob Patey (senior men’s 400m hurdles), Jessica Henderson (U17 discus) and Naomi Holdsworth (U20 discus).

Winning bronze were Noah Patey (2,000m steeplechase), Holly Whitter (senior women’s 100m) and Amy Greenwell (U17 discus).

With many of the athletes competing in this summer's Island Games in Guernsey for Team Isle of Wight.
