CONDITIONS out on the water were perfect for a special Isle of Wight surfing competition at the weekend.
Held at surfing hot spot, Freshwater Bay, the competition was in memory of Lee Sheaff; a beloved Island surfer who lost his battle with cancer a decade ago.
A wealth of local talent hit the waves, including Matt Harwood, Sam Scadgell, Joe and Fynn Truman, Eddie Cole, Adam Barnes, Dougie Newell, Harry Matthews and Ross Williams.
Young Island surfing sensation Boe Howell also competed, fresh from her third-place finish in the Rip Curl Grom Search in Newquay last month.
“This year marks ten years since we lost Sheaffy,” said competition winner, Matt Harwood.
“I really miss him, as we all do. I found such a good mate in Lee.
“We both completely loved surfing. He was such a calm, fun and kind guy, with a mischievous grin.
“This weekend was awesome. We have a rad community here and it was so good to see so many friends celebrate Lee.
“Conditions were tricky at the bay but everyone surfed so well; I think the win could have been anyone’s.
"Thanks to the judges and to Emily Scarlett for keeping the whole event running, and to Paul Blackley for the great shots."
After a busy afternoon of surfing, Matt Harwood was declared the winner, with Eddie Cole in second and Sam Scadgell in third.
Glory Art Glass made the trophy and Rapanui Clothing and Stance Europe donated prizes.
