ARRETON made it back-to-back promotions after securing the Division 2 title of the Isle of Wight Indoor Cricket League, at Rew Valley on Sunday.
They did it with a hard-fought one-run win over Cowes.
Arreton batted first and were restricted to 106-4 — Jason Heap returning 2-24.
In reply, Cowes reached 79-3 at the half-way stage and were looking comfortable, but tight bowling from Arreton in the final six overs saw Cowes add just 26 more runs, to finish on 105-5, with Mark Hartnell (39 not out) and Jason Heap (37) top scoring.
Rob Wilcox was the pick of the Arreton bowlers, taking 3-13, with Ben Baker pitching in with 2-23.
Runners-up, Island Bakeries A, completed their season with a very comfortable 134-run win against the Isle of Wight Prison Officers.
The Bakers posted a hefty 209-2, with Matt Webb (47), Dean McGuire (31 not out), Nick Stafford (30 not out) and Kieron Annis (28 not out) all in the runs.
McGuire then took 2-23, as the Prison Officers were skittled out for 75.
The defeat leaves the Prison Officers tooted to the bottom of the league and, although they have one more game left to play, they will not avoid relegation to Division 3.
In Division 3, Ventnor B recorded a six-wicket win over Havenstreet.
Four run outs resulted in Havenstreet being dismissed for 98, which Ventnor reached comfortably within ten overs, without losing a wicket — Harrison McQuillan top scoring with 25 not out.
The other game in Division 3 saw the Isle of Wight Health Associates win their first game of the season against fellow strugglers, Ryde School.
Martyn Richards hit 46 not out for the Medics (122-5), with Cameron Beale taking 2-25.
In reply, the Scholars scored 105-5 (A. Adkins 35, Dave Winter 2-16) — falling 17 runs short of their target.
This Sunday sees the final round of matches.
