STRIKER Sam Cant was the hero of the hour as East Cowes Vics earned three valuable points and eased their relegation fears for now against the side below them.

There were some nerves before kick-off in this vital six-pointer at Beatrice Avenue tonight (Tuesday) — not helped by going a goal down after 15 minutes.

But up popped the bustling forward to put them in front before half-time.

In a nervy climax to the game, after a goalless second half, with both defences on top, Vics held onto the victory to haul them seven points clear of third bottom Amesbury Town — and with a game in hand.

However, Vics entertain second placed New Milton Town on Saturday.
