THE penultimate week of the Isle of Wight Table Tennis League threw up some more exciting encounters as Ryde continue to dominate Division 1.
Ryde teams look likely to keep the top four places after Shanklin Warriors were beaten by their fellow club-mates, lower placed Shanklin Skuas.
The Skuas' Paul Rainford was player of the match, winning all three singles with ease, plus the doubles with Graham Evans.
The match finished 6-4 to the Skuas, dropping the Warriors to fifth place with two matches left to play.
After last week’s whitewash of Havenstreet B by Ryde C, and Ryde D’s easy win over Newport Vics B 8-2, Ryde are definitely the club in form in this season’s Division One.
Ryde A’s Scott Lawson is leading the averages, unbeaten all season, with Ryde C’s Alex Rorke second on 94 per cent.
In Division Two, Newport Vics B are champions, with Ryde Rascals confirmed as runners up with one match left to play.
Vics B overcame Ryde Wight Knights without dropping a game, with Vics' Barry Joyce player of the match.
Second placed Rascals also had an easy 8-2 win over club-mates Ryde Revellers, with Peter Clarke the Rascals' stand out player.
The top three players in the averages table all hail from Newport Vics A, with Dave Newham and Rob Warren both on a 96 per cent win average, with Barry Joyce achieving 93 per cent.
Meanwhile, Division Three has been dominated by village clubs St Lawrence and Shorwell.
St Lawrence Lizards and Shorwell Spinners lie in first and second place respectively, with two matches left to play — but neither were in action this week.
Fourth-placed Shorwell Saints had a fine win over third placed Ryde Rustics 7-3, with the Saint’s Kevin Williams the unbeaten player of the match.
St Lawrence’s Derek Pittard is unbeaten all season and tops the averages table, with Shorwell Spinner’s Robert Wendes 89 per cent win record.
