Defending champions, Newport FC, are through to the semi-finals of the Isle of Wight (Gold) Cup, thanks to an impressive 4-1 victory against a team who had only dropped four points all season, before Tuesday night.

Island League Division 1 side, Whitecroft and Barton Sports, provided the competition at Smallbrook Stadium.

After just seventeen minutes, The Port's Ji Nash had bagged a hattrick - he was later named man of the match.

By half-time, Newport had added a fourth goal to their tally, in a repeat of the top-of-the-table side's Saturday clash with Andover New Street, in the Wessex League.

W&B were not quite out, however, with Barry Calvert scoring in the second half.

Final score was Newport FC 4-1 Whitecroft and Barton Sports.

On Twitter, Newport FC praised W&B's game and good attitude.

Elsewhere, in the Wessex Premier, Cowes Sports weren't able do enough to beat United Services Portsmouth, at Westwood Park.

The visitors were a place below them and had a game in hand, before their Tuesday night trip across The Solent, to take on the Yachtsmen.

Final score, Cowes Sports 0-2 United Services Portsmouth.

In Division 1, it was the hosts, Romsey Town, who walked away the winners, in a mid-table match with East Cowes Vics.

It ended Romsey Town 2-0 East Cowes Vics, making it three losses in a row for the Islanders.

Tuesday's final score was a marked improvement compared to the last time they met, however.

Back in November, Vics were humiliated 6-1 at Beatrice Avenue.
