AFTER a spell of dry weather, riders took on the steep hills of Hawthorn Manor Farm at Chale Green for the Novice and Expert Cup.
In what was one of the most demanding and entertaining trials yet this year, Tom Richards rode an incredible trial, riding the final two laps with a binding front brake, which did not allow the front wheel to turn, in the experts class.
Nevertheless, Richards continued to battle through the sections — riding much of the trial on his back wheel to beat James Stay by one mark, scoring 27.
In the intermediates, Adam Morgan was in a league of his own, dropping just 16 — excelling on three of the sections, which helped cement his win.
Meanwhile, in the Over-50s section, Simon Newnham, using all his experience, had a good day on the steep slopes, recording 42 to win easily.
In the Open Cs, Scott Milton took the win, losing only 28 marks — the lowest recorded score on the C route, while in the novices, Mike True came out on top by an 18-mark margin over Sam Jurich.
Michael Denness rode a brilliant trial in the adult beginners' class, finishing the trial on only five marks dropped — the lowest score by anyone on the day.
In the youth experts, Alfie Haydon had to get every little bit of power out of his 125cc machine, to be able to tackle the steep sections.
After an unsettled start and a rookie error in the first section, Alfie found his rhythm in the third lap, finishing on 58.
Connor Shaw was the sole competitor in the youth novices, finishing on 73, a highly competitive score when compared to the adults who rode the same route, while Blake Buggy was the only rider to complete the youth beginners trial.
