VENTNOR A remain top of Division 1 of the Island League following their 16-run win over the Isle of Wight EPP side.
Ventnor’s Sam Guerin (32 not out) and Martin Blackman (25 not out) helped their side post a total of 136-4, with Ross Whyte taking 2-24 for EPP.
Whyte then smashed 40 not out, but with wickets falling regularly, he was unable to get his team up to the required total.
Guerin was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, taking 2-30.
Ryde A kept up the pressure on Ventnor with a 61-run win over Northwood.
Ryde batted first, but generally struggled against a good Northwood bowling attack, who kept them to a below par 109-5.
Tom Durman was the only Ryde batsman to get on top of the bowling, smashing 42, with Northwood’s Ben Baker grabbing 2-27.
Unfortunately for Northwood, when batting, they were unable to match their good bowling performance and were whittled out for just 48, with man-of-the-match Durman taking 3-11.
In Division 3, the Ryde 49ers made it five wins out of five with a 23-run win over Ventnor B.
Ryde batted first and posted 154-4, with useful contributions from Justin Pinder (33 not out), Rob Hobbs (25 not out) and Durman (25 not out).
In reply, Martin Blackman hit 43 not out.
The other game in Division 3 resulted in a two-wicket win for Shanklin Evergreens over Ryde School.
An impressive 62 not out from Preston Draper-Oatley helped the scholars to a score of 113-5, with Steve Priddle taking 2-19 for Shanklin.
The Evergreens reached the target with just one ball to spare — Dave McClean hitting 27 not out and Jez Robinson 26.
