FRESHWATER Bay Golf Club welcomed its newly-elected club, lady and seniors captains in the great annual tradition of the Captain’s Drive-In competition.
The event raised more than £300 for the captains' chosen charity for 2023, Independent Arts.
The ten-hole Stableford competition was remarkably close, with five competitors all scoring 20 points, but all beaten by the winner, Hugh Morrison, with 21.
The winners of the ‘nearest peg’ competition were Dave Bell, Mark Vallely and Sheila Francis, who all correctly guessed where the club captain’s drive would land.
Afterwards, Independent Arts chief executive, Lisa Gagliani, gave a presentation to members about the work they do — using the healing power of the arts to improve health and wellbeing.
For the past 35 years, Independent Arts has worked with professional artists and musicians, to deliver an incredible range of high-quality activities in the community and care homes.
The charity's chief executive, Lisa Gagliani, said: “It's wonderful captain Gary Dobson and members of the club have chosen Independent Arts to support as their charity of the year.
"As a club, they understand the need for companionship, which is at the heart of everything Independent Arts does.
"Too many people on the Island are isolated and lonely through bereavement, ill health or circumstances they can't control, so joining one or more of our sessions has become a lifeline to many on the Isle of Wight."
