TREACHEROUS soft sand coupled with wet and wild conditions made for a big test of skill and concentration for motorcyclists in the Ted Phillips Cup trials event in Shorwell.
Held at Haslett Sandpit, riders in each class had a battle on their hands to try to win them.
In the experts class, Tom Richards continuing his winning trend in 2022 — riding confidently during the trial, losing marks on only two sections.
James Stay came second, just a dropped mark behind Richards in a great contest between the two rivals.
In the youth elites, Alfie Haydon battled through the same sections as the experts, to finish the day with a score of eight, losing a slack three marks on the final section of the day — but an excellent result on a 125cc machine.
In the intermediates, Adam Morgan continued his winning streak, dropping only two marks, both on the tricky second section of the course.
Sonny Gaskin, who has already claimed the Winter Championship’s intermediate title, came in second, and Rob Baker, third, with a score of 37.
In the youth experts, Harrison Crickmore won by five marks over Freddie Death.
Sections 1 and 6 are where Harrison out-rode Freddie to take the win and seal the youth experts championship.
In the over 50s, Simon Newnham dropped eight marks to win convincingly, while Ben Ashcroft, yet again, was in a league of his own, losing 29 marks in the novices class — comfortably clear of runner-up, Tristan Osbourne.
In the youth novices, Riley True came in first with a score of 65 — 22 ahead of Connor Shaw in second.
Both rode confident trials, with experience being the deciding factor.
Ever-improving Steve Jacobs was the sole rider in the adult beginners’ class, but he rode a confident trial, scoring 71.
Meanwhile, in the youth beginners’ category, Blake Buggy made a winning return after injury to beat Riley Baker by a single mark — scoring 80.
