WIGHT Tri members, Liz Dunlop and Jan Fletcher, made the long journey to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
They competed in the final event of a long triathlon season — at the Age Group World Standard Distance Triathlon Championships.
With air and sea temperatures just shy of 30 degrees, hydration became a key element of their preparation and race strategy.
It was Jan's fifth time representing Team GB, but her first World Championships event due to Covid-19.
Racing with the 45-49 age group, Jan finished her season on a high.
Exiting the water in 27:41, she powered her way through the cycling pack after her run, posting the sixth fastest bike split in her age group (1:02:47).
She also posted a superb run split of 44:52 — second fastest in her age group — to finish in sixth position with a personal best of 2:21:27.
Liz, meanwhile, enjoyed a great swim, exiting the water in 31:41 — 5th position in the 65-69 age category.
After a swift transition, she posted a 1:12:47 bike split and a run split of 56:38.
Liz crossed the finish line in 2:48:35, earning herself a bronze medal.
A fabulous end to a long and busy race season, Liz has competed in several World and European championships this year, achieving a few podium spots along the way.
