ISLE of Wight-born former Ventnor cricketer Adam Hose has been named for the England Lions squad to play two limited overs internationals against South Africa next week.
Adam, who has had a superb season so far for Warwickshire, is named by the England men's selection panel as among the 13-man squad in the 50-over Royal London matches — the first of which gets underway at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, Somerset, on Tuesday, July 12.
The follow up will be at New Road, Worcester, on Thurday, July 14.
Adam, who has been in blistering form with the bat for the Birmingham Bears in the Vitality Blast T20 competition, broke T20 records — helping set beat his own T20 record Bears partnership, scoring 88 not out against the Nottingham Outlaws in a record total.
The former Carisbrooke High School student, who learned his craft as a youngster at Ventnor Cricket Club, before going on to play for Hampshire, Somerset and Warwickshire.
He joins two of his team-mates in the squad, including Sam Hain, who he set those recent records with.
Adam's dad, Jeff, who himself played for Ventnor, said: "Oh my gosh. That’s amazing news. Thrilled and so chuffed for Adam. England Lions…!!"
England men's assistant coach, Paul Collingwood, has been appointed head coach for the two matches.
Mo Bobat, the ECB's performance director, said: "It's always great when we can bring some of our best and highest potential players together — particularly to take on senior international opposition.
"The two games provide an excellent opportunity to continue to grow our depth and assess players' readiness for England.
"The squad reflects a balance of England's next best players and some future players of note, as well as high performers from this season's Vitality Blast campaign.
"With these games coming at the same time as England ODIs versus India and a County Championship round, we're very appreciative of the collaborative approach of counties, enabling us to field strong teams."
The first match at Taunton will permit full squad participation to facilitate South Africa's team preparation for the international white-ball programme, but the second match at Worcester will be played as an 11-a-side List-A match.
The full England Lions squad to face South Africa: Captain, Tom Abell (Somerset), Rehan Ahmed (Leicestershire), wicketkeeper Tom Banton (Somerset), Sam Cook (Essex), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Steven Eskinazi (Middlesex), Sam Hain (Warwickshire), Adam Hose (Warwickshire), Benny Howell (Gloucestershire), Jake Lintott (Warwickshire), David Payne (Gloucestershire), George Scrimshaw (Derbyshire) and Will Smeed (Somerset).
