An Isle of Wight marching band will take part in the prestigious, invitation-only London Band Week this weekend as part of its celebration of marching arts.

With a programme of concerts, a parade of bands and The London Tattoo, the Medina Marching Band will represent the Island alongside some of the finest youth bands.

Travelling from the United States, The Pride of the Southland Tennessee is the largest band to ever come to play in the UK, with 320 members.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the first of the events, held at the ExCeL Centre at Royal Victoria Dock, and on Sunday, there will be a Palace Parade Review in the King’s Garden at Hampton Court Palace.

The London Band Week Honours Band will parade in turn for 10 minutes each through the Palace Garden, concluding with a three-minute static performance.

Kevin Downer, chairman of Medina Marching Band, said: “It's an honour for the band to be participating in such a prestigious event, and we are proud to be representing our little Island.

“This is one of if not the biggest of events in the band’s history since its formation in 1976, and we will do the Island proud.”
