Coronation Street star Dame Maureen Lipman, and Island-born actor Dame Sheila Hancock, are among the names added to the stellar line-up for this year's Isle of Wight Literary Festival.

In the year she turned 90, Dame Sheila will share her thoughts on being a daughter, a sister, a mother, a widow, an actor and a friend.

She will be joined by one of Britain’s best-loved actresses, the award-winning Dame Maureen Lipman.

Dame Maureen has written a number of bestselling books as well as witty and hilarious monologues, several of which she will perform.

Also featuring is former journalist, author, novelist and playwright, Philip Norman, who grew up in Ryde.

He is best known for his biographies of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly, and Elton John.

Local authors will also be showcased, including Tim Wander, Professor Anthony Roberts and David Tomalin.

Forensic search and rescue expert Peter Faulding will share his experiences of recovering bodies, finding discarded remains, identifying unmarked graves and saving people from locations and situations too dangerous for the normal emergency services.

Maggie Ankers, chairman of the Isle of Wight Literary Festival, said: “We’re very proud of our eclectic programme which offers something for everyone. We have achieved our objective of bringing culture to the island at affordable prices."

Singer Norma Winstone, poet Jeremy Robson and a trio of outstanding musicians will bring the 2023 Isle Wight Literary Festival.

Programme Director Julia Dams said: “We’re fortunate to have these world class artistes as a grand finale to our 2023 Literary Festival. This will be a hugely popular event so do book early to avoid disappointment."

More names are expected to be added to the line-up over the next few weeks.

The festival will take place between Thursday, October 5 to Sunday, October 8, with Northwood House in Cowes the main venue.
