A CORDON at Southsea seafront which was erected following the discovery of an unexploded Second World War bomb has been lifted, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed.
Earlier today (Tuesday), police sealed off the area at Pier Road, Southsea.
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area and Hovertravel postponed its crossings between Southsea and Ryde.
A spokesperson for the cross-Solent operator said its Southsea terminal was evacuated at around 12:30pm.
Hovertravel services remain cancelled this evening, with an update expected at 5.45am tomorrow (Wednesday).
“We have been working with our partners in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, who have now safely removed the ordnance from the area,” said a spokesperson for the force.
“The Southsea cordons have now been lifted.
“Thank you for your patience whilst we have been dealing with this matter.”
