AN ISLE of Wight man who assaulted another resident in the mental health unit at St Mary's Hospital following a dispute over milk proceeded to rap in the dock.
George Swain, of Mary Rose Avenue, Wootton Bridge, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday, November 29.
Initially produced from the cells in the morning, the 26-year-old was seen stuttering and shaking, and proceeded to rap in the dock.
The court heard he had a tendency to “blow up” when he had the stage in front of him, and it was suggested his behaviour might have been directed toward police officers in the public gallery.
His case was adjourned for a time to give him an opportunity to calm down.
Appearing before magistrates again in the afternoon, Swain admitted assault by beating, in Newport, on November 28.

Prosecutor, Lauren McConnell, said the offence arose from an incident in Sevenacres mental health unit at St Mary's Hospital.
She said Swain was in the communal area and there was a disagreement with another resident who accused him of consuming all the milk.
Ms McConnell said Swain ran toward the resident and contact was made, causing his victim to hit his head on a wall.
Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Swain was an inpatient at the time.
He said Swain didn’t like the way he was spoken to.
Mr McGoldrick described it as an impulsive action; a minor level assault causing minor injuries.
He said Swain was on benefits and faced challenges with accommodation.
Swain was fined £200 and ordered to pay £100 compensation and an £80 surcharge.
