A police helicopter scoured the skies in search of a man wanted by officers on the Isle of Wight.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) from Bournemouth was seen over Newport and the Pan area yesterday afternoon (Monday).

NPAS was tasked at 2.41pm to assist Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The helicopter was in the skies for around 50 minutes.

A spokesperson for NPAS said: "A police helicopter from NPAS Bournemouth was deployed to the Newport area to assist Hampshire Police in the search for a suspect."

Police confirmed the search was for a man police want to speak 'to in relation to an ongoing investigation'.

A force spokesperson said: "No arrests were made."
