The Isle of Wight Council has unveiled plans to improve cycling and walking routes.

The authority is seeking feedback from residents and local groups on four new local cycling and walking infrastructure plans (LCWIPs), which it hopes to adopt as supplementary planning documents (SPD) within the Island Plan.

The plans cover the Bay Area, Bembridge, Brading and St Helens, Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard, and East Cowes and Whippingham.

The LCWIPs, which were approved by the council's cabinet in May 2023 and June 2024, outline priority improvements for cycling and walking routes.

Cllr Paul Fuller, who is responsible for planning, said: "The local communities in the areas covered by these four LCWIPs have put a great deal of effort into helping inform these fantastic plans.

"By adopting them all, we can make sure that development coming forward through the planning process helps to contribute towards some of excellent sustainable transport projects within them."

The consultation is open until 5pm on Friday, January 17, 2025, after which the council will review the feedback and aim to adopt the plans in February.

Responses and draft SPDs can be viewed on the supplementary planning document consultations page on the council's website.
