A vehicle has been seized, police said, after officers allegedly caught an unaccompanied learner driver practising on the roads ahead his test.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the 'young man' had come to the Island from Portsmouth for his test.

Officers said they spotted a vehicle driven 'questionably' at around 5am on a day last week.

After pulling the vehicle over, PC Witheridge and PC Fraser said the driver was found with no licence.

They said: "The driver stated he came over during the early hours so that he could 'practice' on the roads before he did his test later in the day."

The vehicle was seized under S165 of the Road Traffic Act.

Police said: "This young man's driving freedom is over before it started..."
