JEWSON is set to open a new branch on the Isle of Wight - to the former Newport Football Club ground.

The builders' merchant has announced plans to open a new 'branch of the future' in Newport.

Jewson finalised a deal earlier this week to purchase land at the former Newport Football Club ground on Godric Road, with hopes to open the new branch next year.

The multinational company said the move is part of their commitment to serving customers and communities on the Isle of Wight.

Andy Jordan, South West regional managing director for Jewson, said: "We’re thrilled to announce we have finalised the contract to purchase the land at Godric Road.

"It will allow us to bring our 'branch of the future' concept to our valued customers on the Isle of Wight in 2025.

"We’re committed to the communities living and working on the Island, and I believe this further major investment is testimony to supporting it in every way we can."

The announcement of the Newport branch comes after Jewson closed their Medina Avenue branch in Newport today (Friday, November 29), and will merge into the nearby Trafalgar Road store.

The chain currently operates five stores on the Island, with one in Ryde, one in Sandown and three in Newport.

They thanked and assisted customers affected by the closure, directing them to the Trafalgar Road branch, which offers a full and expanding range of products, tool hire services and a kitchen showroom.

The company is currently in discussions with local authorities to determine the best development opportunity for the Medina Avenue site.

Jewson is part of the STARK Building Materials UK portfolio of building merchant brands, which is part of STARK Group, Europe's leading merchant and distributor of building materials.
