A talk on how wartime restrictions affected Christmas celebrations will be held on the Isle of Wight.

Osborne manager Amanda Pickard will give the talk at the Colwell Baptist Church on December 1.

The talk starts with the peaceful Christmas of 1939 and describes how celebrations changed as the war progressed.

As part of the talk, Ms Pickard will bring along original Second World War artefacts and will answer questions afterwards.

Ms Pickard said: “I am so looking forward to visiting Colwell Baptist Church. Plus having the evening in a church is a wonderful setting for this nostalgic journey."

The event, which begins at 7.30pm, is free to attend but donations are welcome.

The money raised will help a young member of Colwell Baptist Church go on a school community project in a poor region of Peru.

The church's Christmas celebrations will include an informal festive Christmas carol service on December 15 at 9.30am and 'Carols by Candlelight' on December 19 from 4pm.
