A MAN who crashed has been arrested after a drugs raid on the Isle of Wight.

Police executed a drugs warrant at a house in Pan Lane, Newport, at 7.40am today (Thursday, November 28).

As they entered, a Jaguar suddenly crashed into another car before it sped off.

But the vehicle returned moments later, and the 29-year-old driver was detained and subjected to a roadside drugs procedure.

Meanwhile, officers searched the property, seizing cannabis, drugs paraphernalia and a machete.

The Jaguar driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a knife.

He was also detained on suspicion of drug driving and failing to stop after an accident.

The unnamed suspect remains in custody at this time.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "We continue to encourage anyone with information on drugs supply, in their neighbourhood, to report this to police.

"Supply of drugs, whether that be cannabis or Class A drugs, funds organised crime and is often linked to violence, the use of weapons and exploitation of vulnerable people.
