TORRENTIAL rain overnight has caused flooding on the Isle of Wight, and here, we have a gallery of pictures from an eventful – and for some, distressing – morning.
Floodwater ravaged several Island homes and forced the temporary closure of multiple key routes, including Briddlesford Road, Merstone Lane and Harding Shute.
It saw the Environment Agency issue three flood alerts for the Eastern Yar, River Medina and Gurnard Lock, and a severe flood warning for Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge and Alverstone.
Flooding on the Island Line network blocked railway lines, disrupting train services, and testing driving conditions for motorists saw two early morning crashes.

The first, at the Robin Hill roundabout, involved a Ford Fiesta and a lorry, and resulted in a minor injury.
The second, a head-on collision between a crimson Mercedes and a Ford Focus, happened at Whiteley Bank.
Thankfully, there were no injured parties in the second crash, police at the scene said.
Isle of Wight flood heroes Sam Loba and Jamie Webster from RenoDrain were once again out and about helping this morning.
Properties on Gunville Road, near its junction with Ash Lane, were severely affected by floodwater.
So bad was the impact that several families have since been offered temporary accommodation.
