An emergency road closure remains in effect on Pyle Street this afternoon (Sunday) and will not be lifted until the exterior building façade is secured, the local authority has confirmed.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council said: “A decision was taken to contact Island Roads and request the closure of Pyle Street to both traffic and pedestrians at around 1.30pm on Saturday, as an extra precaution due to public safety concerns and adverse weather.
“A local contractor was called in to remove the debris from the pavement.
“We are hoping to bring in a scaffolding company to secure the exterior of the building next week.
“Access remains open for businesses in Pyle Street and there is no further risk to the public at this time.”
