THE collapse of a wall in Newport Town Centre has seen Isle of Wight police close off a road this morning (Saturday).
UPDATE: It was a close call for one Isle of Wight woman, as well as other pedestrians, the County Press has been told.
A section of wall has come away above the former Favian barbers on Pyle Street.
Police are in attendance and debris can be seen in the road and on the pavement.
It has happened near Pyle Street's junction with St James' Square and police officers are directing pedestrians away from the scene.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted at around 10.30am and officers were called to assist with road closures.
Motorists are having to divert.
UPDATE 1.45pm:
The debris has been cleared but a police cordon remains in place.
The Isle of Wight Council has been approached for a statement.
