MORE than 1,000 Isle of Wight homes are without power this evening (Thursday).
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has confirmed a power outage in the Shanklin and Luccombe area.
Around 91 postcodes have been hit by the power cut, affecting around 1,247 customers.
The outage was reported just before 6pm and SSEN says it aims to have power restored by 11pm.
“The unplanned fault is affecting a large area, and it is likely several streets in your area are affected by the same power cut,” said a spokesperson for SSEN.
"We have had reports of damage to our network.
"When this happens, the power will automatically turn off to keep everyone safe."
Engineers were due to arrive on site at 6.30pm.
A second, smaller outage has also been reported in the Shanklin area, affecting 13 postcodes.
This outage has been attributed to a fault on SSEN's underground network.
UPDATE 9.30PM:
One power outage has been fixed but the other, wider power outage, is still ongoing.
UPDATE 11PM:
Some further disappointment for Shanklin residents.
SSEN says it is now aiming to have power restored by 4pm tomorrow afternoon (Friday).
