Two popular Isle of Wight pubs have received flushing accolades for their toilet standards in the prestigious Loo of the Year Awards 2024.
Wetherspoon pub The Man in the Moon, on St James Street in Newport, achieved a platinum rating – the second-highest accolade available.
Meanwhile, the Island'[s other Wetherspoon, S. Fowler & Co, on Union Street in Ryde, did not flush away its chances to shine, earning a gold rating.
Loo of the Year Awards plunged upon thousands of toilets at sites across the UK to judge them unannounced.
Inspectors carefully sieve through criteria such as décor, cleanliness, accessibility, and even the sparkle of hand-washing stations.
The awards range from bronze to the top diamond grade. Any venue failing to meet the mark risks being bogged down with no recognition at all.
Kate Scott, manager of The Man in the Moon, said: “We are delighted with the grading.
“Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."
Becky Wall, managing director of the awards, added: "The toilets at the two pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.”
"The pubs deserve their awards."
